Every Time You Masturbate God Kills a Kitten?

Cliche Kitty is perhaps the most famous kitten on the entire Internet. The striking young tabby made his debut in the photoshop contests of Fark and Something Awful sometime in 2002. Soon the handsome young kitten found his way into almost every inbox on the net.

The original image was a stock photograph of the young tabby cat leaping through bright green grass. Domo-Kun - the strange brown monsters and mascots of Japanese television station NHK - were later added to the background of the image, giving the impression of chasing Cliche Kitty. This version of the image began circulating the Internet in late 2000. It wasn't until the black and white "public service announcement" and closeup of the kitten's face were added to the bottom of the image that Cliche Kitty met his fifteen minutes of fame. The scores of immitations and knock-off images would secure Cliche Kitty's spot in Internet history.

If immitation is the ultimate form of flattery, the original Cliche Kitty image is the most patronized meme of the new millennium. Some copies feature the original image, while others replace the kitten with the target of their choice. Some use completely different images altogether. Topics of the immitations range from mainstream issues like American politics to specialized subjects intended only for close-knit cliques.

The gallery features an array of Cliche Kitty images. Included are the original stock photo, the original meme, and a myriad of immitations. Feel free to submit cliche kitty images to clichekitty (at) tessums (dot) com.
